Ceramic … its far more sophisticated than it used to be, you won’t just find it in the kitchen or on the nose cones of jets or even in potteries. Try looking at the new range of Lawton’s Ceramic Coated scissors in their Duracut range.
A tungsten carbide insert is welded (not braised) onto the instrument then following sharpening it is coated in a Ceramic compound to combine the durability of Tungsten Carbide and dexterousness of Ceramics to deliver a long lasting yet sensitive product.
The clever design guys at Lawton in Germany build in a reuse (number of cuts) factor 5-6 compared to standard Tungsten Carbide and 15-17 times for a standard Surgical Stainless Steel, as a result the cost per cut is greatly reduced.
In addition they have a beautiful granite non reflecting low tension finish and a Gold Screw holding them together.
